Group hopes to collect 9 million gift boxes
First Baptist Church Aledo will be a collection site for Operation Christmas Child – the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind.
Collection will take place at the church, 128 Elm St., Nov. 12 through 19. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 12, 13 and 15; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 14; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 16; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 17; 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 18; and 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 19.
Volunteers are asked to fill a shoe box with gifts, school supplies and hygiene items for needy children overseas. The boxes will be delivered to children in more than 100 countries. Operation Christmas Child – a project of the international Christian relief and evangelism organization Samaritan’s Purse headed by Franklin Graham –- hopes to collect 9 million gift boxes this year.
Operation Christmas Child uses tracking technology to allow participants to “follow” their box to the destination. To register shoe box gifts and find out the destination country, use the “Follow Your Box” donation form found at www.samaritanspurse.org/occ.
